No matter what type of traveller you are, in the Cyclades, there is definitely a beach (or a dozen) just for you. All the islands have beautiful beaches and the sea is incredibly blue and crystal clear everywhere.
While it is impossible to tell you about every beach worth visiting in Cyclades, there are a few that are simply unmissable.
Sarakiniko beach (Milos)
Sarakiniko beach is one of the most beautiful beaches of Milos and it is definitely one of the most special beaches around. It’s the most photographed place on the island because of its impressive landscape: unforgettable rocks eroded by time and salt water are folded towards the sea creating a scenario of shadows and lights.
In the whole landscape formed from these volcanic rocks there is no vegetation and its white colour creates an interesting contrast with the deep blue sea surrounding it.
Pori Beach (Koufonisia)
The Pori Beach is 3.5 km to the northeast of Chora. From the beach, you can admire numerous caves and rock formations. The beach is crescent-shaped which means that it is protected from the Meltemi, the north wind that sometimes blows on the island of Koufonisia.
The water is shallow and that makes it a pleasure to dive and swim. Bring water because the weather tends to be quite hot. This beach is much visited by nudists and windsurfers for the wind allows them to windsurf.
Kastraki beach (Paros)
Kastraki’s beautiful white sands begin right after Mikri Vigla beach and offer clear waters, quietness (if it’s not high season) and reasonably priced eating options. Ideal for relaxing, swimming and fishing, the beach never gets too crowded, making it an ideal location when you want tranquility. Umbrellas and sunbeds are available, so you don’t have to haul the usual beach calmness.
Golden beach (Paros)
Golden Beach is a beautiful beach with golden sand on the East coast of Paros and considered to be one of the best beaches of the island. Golden Beach (Chrissi Akti) is a long golden sandy beach extending for 700 meters – one of the longest and sandiest beaches on Paros. The island famous by windsurfers for its ideal wind conditions. The beach has been awarded the Blue Flag of the European Union and here you can also find rooms, apartments and hotels, rent a boat or helicopter.
Kolymbitries beach (Paros)
Kolymbithres is perhaps the most famous beach in Paros because of its interesting geology. The granite rock formations are millions of years old and have created a unique scenery that could easily make a film set location for a sci-fi movie. Kolymbithres is legendary for its turquoise water. It is suitable for snorkeling and attracts numerous fans of the sport. A few beach bars always attract young people who come here to enjoy the sea and sun, but also music, parties and various happenings and games. For all this, it is one of the most well known beaches of the island.
Red Beach (Santorini)
At the tail end of the road to Ancient Akrotiri, this beach earned its name from its reddish volcanic sand. Many sunbeds and umbrellas cover the dark sand and right on the seashore are some nice pebbles. Travelers say the scenery is stunning, so be sure to take a camera with you. Snorkeling is highly recommended due to the interesting rocks. A beautiful and quiet place to unwind, it is the uniquely charming setting of this beach that makes it a place you simply have to experience when visiting Greece.
Psarou beach (Mykonos)
Smaller, exclusive area, stylish beach, nestled in a sheltered cove. Sailing boats and celebrity yachts are all part of the view. The best beach for any windy day, it boasts very stylish wooden sunbeds and umbrellas, and excellent service. Has private parking but as a very popular spot, parking can be difficult if you don’t go early. A beach for those who enjoy a stylish crowd and deserve luxury service.
Agios Pavlos beach (Amorgos)
Agios Pavlos is located at bout 8km south from Aigiali and it boasts a coast that combines sand and pebbles. Its highlight is the proximity and views to the charming Nikouria islet while small rib boats can take you across to it so that you enjoy its three amazing beaches. Agios Pavlos is a fishing spot and you will also find there a tavern offering mouthwatering local delicacies.
Martselo beach (Paros)
This is arguably the area around Parikia’s finest beach, a long wide expanse of golden sand with crystal clear waters fed by underground springs. From the beach there is a great view across the bay to Parikia. The sea is noticeably cooler here so perfect for sweltering mid-summer afternoons. To the left of where the ferry docks are two small undeveloped beaches with no amenities but thy are well shaded and less crowded during the peak season. Ideal conditions for snorkeling and SUP.
You can visit all these beautiful islands by doing a boat cruise in the Greek islands or a helicopter tour around Cyclades or you can do even more: island hopping to enjoy each island better and unhurriedly.
